The Odisha Government has launched the Commercial Layer Farming Scheme (CLFY) to increase egg production, promote poultry entrepreneurship and reduce the gap between demand and supply. The scheme was launched by Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik during the celebration of World Egg Day 2026 at the Veterinary Training Institute in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The state has set a target of producing 1,000 crore eggs annually by 2036 under Odisha Vision 2036. The new scheme will provide financial incentives of up to ₹10 crore for establishing modern, automated commercial layer or pullet farms with a capacity exceeding 25,000 birds. Advance subsidies through a mirror account will also help reduce entrepreneurs’ interest burden on bank loans.
The Minister stated that Odisha currently produces approximately 1.12 crore eggs daily through commercial farms, semi-commercial units and backyard poultry farming. The state aims to raise per capita annual egg availability from 87 eggs to the national average of 106 by 2029 and subsequently rank among India’s top five egg-producing states.
Under the Pashusampad Samruddhi scheme, 43,000 beneficiaries will receive 100 per cent financial assistance for backyard poultry farming during 2026-27. Semi-commercial layer farms with capacities ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 birds are eligible for 50–60 per cent assistance, up to ₹19.74 lakh. Larger farms can also receive support under the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana.
The Minister added that approximately ₹512 crore in financial assistance had been provided to poultry farmers and entrepreneurs over the past two-and-a-half years to establish broiler and layer farms.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary Prem Chandra Choudhary emphasised the need to further strengthen Odisha’s egg production capacity. Poultry farmers, entrepreneurs, departmental officials and media representatives attended the programme.
