Paperman Media (Bhubaneswar )- In a significant step toward strengthening international cooperation, the U.S. Consul General, Ms. Laura Williams, had a courtesy call with the Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, today at Lokseva Bhavan. The meeting focused on pivotal sectors including renewable energy, semiconductor manufacturing, and the promotion of Odisha’s rich tourism and cultural heritage.
A primary focus of the meeting was the transition to sustainable energy. The Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singh Deo highlighted Odisha’s growing perspectives on Renewable Energy (RE) and Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs). Central to this discussion was the implementation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The Deputy CM emphasized that every grid system and solar project should integrate battery storage to ensure energy availability during peak hours.
Furthering the state’s technological ambitions, the discussion touched upon, Semiconductor Manufacturing- Highlighting India’s first 3D glass semiconductor chip manufacturing initiatives. Plans for data centers and the laying of underground cables to modernize the state's digital backbone. Exploration of rare earth deposits found along the Odisha coast.

The meeting underscored the supply chain and logistics management capabilities of the region. Discussions also covered Strategic growth in the maritime sector. Securing funding for matured startups to scale Odisha’s entrepreneurial talent.
Promoting "Incredible India" and Odisha’s Culture
Beyond industry, the Consul General praised the resilience of Odisha, specifically the state’s exemplary power distribution and restoration work following cyclones.
To promote tourism and bilateral cultural exchange, the Deputy CM highlighted, Odisha’s National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries. The state’s proactive role in sponsoring national sports.
In a gesture of goodwill, the Consul General was presented with a book detailing the vibrant Culture of Odisha. ACS, Energy Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers' Empowerment Shri Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav were present during this.
