Reaffirming its enduring commitment to regional development and holistic employee welfare, NTPC Talcher Thermal has rolled out an expansive series of community outreach, health, and cultural initiatives over the past few weeks, underscoring its pivotal role in powering both the state’s energy needs and its social fabric.
In a landmark step towards grassroots social infrastructure, three newly constructed Anganwadi centres were formally dedicated to project-affected villages on Tuesday. Inaugurated by Shri Vijay Chand, Executive Director of NTPC Talcher Thermal, the facilities—one located in Padia Bhanga and two in Lingrakata—have been developed under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework. Equipped with modern learning aids and recreational instruments, the upgraded centres aim to transform pre-school education into an engaging experience while significantly strengthening institutional healthcare and nutritional access for infants, young children, and expectant mothers across the locality. Senior officials, including Shri Om Prakash Solanki, GM (O&M), Shri Rakesh Kumar, GM (Maintenance & Administration), Shri D.S. Kumar, AGM (HR), and Shri Ravi Shekhar, AGM (TS), attended the ceremony alongside enthusiastic village residents. Addressing the gathering, Shri Chand reiterated the power major’s resolve to foster holistic child development through sustained Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships.
The emphasis on social welfare was mirrored earlier in the month by the Sagarika Ladies Club, the station’s women’s wing, which observed Gandhi Jayanti with a humanitarian visit to Adruta Children’s Home. Guided by Club President Smt. Vibha Agrawal, members spent the day engaging with children, distributing essential daily provisions, and encouraging the young residents to pursue their aspirations with optimism and perseverance. Healthcare awareness also took centre stage under Ashalok Hospital’s “Ahwahan” initiative, which hosted an interactive symposium on adult oncology delivered by Dr. Srigopal Mohanty, Senior Medical Oncologist from Panda Cancer Hospital, Cuttack, urging employees to embrace early screening and proactive lifestyle measures.

Beyond social welfare, the township witnessed spirited cultural and sporting engagements that brought employees and their families together. The festive season concluded on a high note with grand Durga Puja rituals and energetic Garba performances organised by the Spectrum Club and the Employee Welfare Association, followed by traditional Dussehra festivities featuring a ceremonial Ravan Dahan and fireworks display led by Shri Chand. On the sports front, the annual inter-departmental football tournament culminated in an electrifying final on October 9, where Electrical Power Football Club defeated Services Thunder Football Club 2–0 to lift the championship trophy, presented by Chief Guest Shri Om Prakash Solanki.
Complementing its community and cultural pursuits, the station marked notable achievements in operational quality, linguistic heritage, and ecological stewardship. Quality Circle team “Niyatrana,” guided by Dy-Manager (HR) Smt. Saraswati Behera, bagged a prestigious Gold Award at the 39th QCFI Kolkata Chapter convention for resolving key logistical bottlenecks during the GEM 2026 program. Meanwhile, the successful culmination of Hindi Pakhwada recognised employee literary contributions, and an innovative green drive celebrated employee birthdays through mass sapling plantation. These milestones closely followed a high-level coordination meeting between Shri Chand and Shri Ashish Kumar Singh, IPS, DIG of Police (NCR, Talcher), where both sides reviewed administrative alignment and progress on the upcoming Talcher Thermal Stage-III expansion, reaffirming a shared vision for Odisha’s sustainable industrial and social future.
