Nature lover and environmentalist Trilochan Sahoo, popularly known as the “Tree Man” of Odisha, is set to receive a National Award for his outstanding contribution to school safety and disaster management awareness.
The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has informed Shri Sahoo through an official communication that he has been selected to receive the national recognition for his innovative initiative of implementing disaster management guidelines under the School Safety Policy through School Safety Walls in educational institutions.
The award distribution programme will be held at NIEPA, New Delhi, on September 2 and 3, where tree man of Odish will attend and receive the award.
Shri Sahoo has been actively working to create awareness about school safety, disaster preparedness and risk reduction among students, teachers, parents and local communities. Through his initiatives, thousands of students, teachers and parents have been directly and indirectly sensitised and trained on various aspects of safety and disaster management.
The School Safety Wall initiative has been successfully implemented in several schools in Jajpur and Keonjhar districts. The initiative aims to provide students and the wider school community with easily accessible information on disaster preparedness, safety measures and emergency response.
Expressing his views on the recognition, Shrj Sahoo said, “I am always engaged in doing new and innovative work to reach more and more people in the community and contribute towards solving their problems.
The national recognition has been welcomed by his well-wishers, stakeholders and members of the academic community. Sahoo’s recognition is being seen as an encouragement for innovative grassroots initiatives that promote safety, preparedness and resilience among schoolchildren and communities.
