Paperman Media (Mumbai)- A Workshop on Collecting Indian Air Mail was jointly organised by *Maharashtra Postal Circle* and *Air Mail Society India Foundation (AMSI)*. The workshop was conducted by Mr Piyush Khaitan, Chairman of AMSI, at the R.O. Conference Hall, Mumbai GPO, on 5 May 2026.
The workshop was graced by Shri Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra Circle; Dr Sudhir Jakhere, Director of Postal Services, Nagpur Region; and Smt. Rekha Rizvi, Director, Mumbai GPO, in whose august presence Special Cancellation titled *“Philatelic Workshop for Collaborative Learning”* was released to commemorate the occasion, the cancellation was aimed at encouraging enthusiasts to come forward, share their knowledge, and conduct more such seminars to promote philately, thereby adding a memorable philatelic highlight to the event.

The workshop was a great success, with participants being introduced to several fascinating aspects of early airmail history through rare visuals and exhibits. A significant portion of the session focused on the nuances of collecting Indian air mail. Drawing from his experience, Shri Khaitan explained how collectors should look beyond stamps and study the story behind the cover—including flight routes, postal markings, censor labels (especially from wartime mail), and rates of postage. He emphasised that each air mail cover is a historical document, offering insights into communication networks, geopolitical situations, and technological progress of its time.
A hidden facet of history was also unveiled during the session.
