Mama Bank has announced the appointment of renowned academic and social development leader Dr. Betty Lovai as an Independent Director on its Board. Dr. Lovai officially joined the Board on July 30, 2026, marking another milestone in the bank's commitment to strong governance and inclusive leadership.
Bringing more than three decades of experience in academia, institutional leadership, public policy, social work, and national development, Dr. Lovai has served the University of Papua New Guinea in several senior positions, including Executive Dean and Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor. She is widely respected for her advocacy of human rights, gender equality, social justice, and community empowerment. In recognition of her contributions, she received the 2010 U.S. Secretary of State's International Women of Courage Award.
Dr. Lovai joined the Mama Bank Board in the presence of Dr. Elizabeth Kopel, Chairlady; Mr. Noel Norikgu, Former Chairman and Independent Director; Mr. Ricky Mitio, OBE, ML, Former Chairman and Independent Director; Ms. Aleena Bird, Deputy Chair and Independent Director; Ms. Doreen Iga, Independent Director; and Mr. Gunanidhi Das, Chief Executive Officer.
