Paperman Media ( Bhubaneswar )- The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has approached the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) over the participation of school students in a state-level Tiranga rally, alleging violation of their rights and safety norms.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here on Monday, OPCC spokesperson and advocate Lalatendu Das alleged that 105 students of Balipatna Shishu Ananta Mahavidyalaya were brought to the “Har Ghar Tiranga” programme without obtaining consent from their parents.
According to Das, three students reportedly fell seriously ill after experiencing breathing difficulties during the programme and were admitted to Capital Hospital for treatment.
The Congress spokesperson alleged that the participation of students in such programmes had been restricted by judicial directions, yet the State Government knowingly violated the law by involving them in the event. The party has therefore filed a complaint before the OHRC seeking a high-level inquiry into the incident and stringent action against those found responsible.
The Congress has also urged the Commission to ensure appropriate medical treatment for the affected students free of cost and provide financial assistance to them.
Das said the complaint was aimed at ensuring accountability and safeguarding the rights and welfare of students. OPCC spokesperson Himanshu Lenka was also present at the press conference.
The allegations are from the Congress party and would be subject to verification by the concerned authorities.
